CLASS REGISTRATION

The Songwriter Workshop is hosted by Balder Saunders with Special Guests

Balder Saunders has been playing mandolin since the age of 7, guitar at age 12, upright bass at age 13 and trumpet at age 14.  He began his career as a professional musician at 14 playing upright bass and mandolin. He toured the United States and Canada.  He was asked to play mandolin for his first studio recording session at 15.

Saunders enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to be a bandsman and graduated first in his class at the John Philip Sousa School of Music in Norfolk, VA. Saunders served in New Orleans where the musical milieu was rich, and in Okinawa Japan, where he traveled to Hong Kong, Russia, Iwo Jima, Thailand, and Australia.

Saunders moved to Santa Rosa Beach in 2000 and played in numerous bands, before co-founding Dread Clampitt. After co-founding the band with Kyle Ogle in 2002 Dread Clampitt has been touring the country for over 20 years. Dread Clampitt is an original band in which Saunders demonstrates outstanding skill as he plays mandolin, is a lead and harmony singer as well as a contributing songwriting to the group. His skill as a writer and arranger adds the perfect amount of intellect, wit, humor, and excitement into each piece.
