Presented by Escape To Create and the Emerald Coast Storytellers, E2C Artist-In-Residence Sandra Jackson-Opoku will lead the After-Hours Writing Workshop and share her work and creative journey before the workshop launches into a writing prompt.
For the prompt, please bring in an inspiring photo or piece of art, something that surprises, informs, or intrigues. We will also have options to choose from at the event.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM following a cocktail gathering beginning at 5 PM. Please RSVP with Emerald Coast Storytellers.

Sandra Jackson-Opoku
Sandra Jackson-Opoku is an award-winning writer of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and dramatic works that are widely published and produced. Awards and honors include the National Endowment for the Arts, an American Library Association Black Caucus Award, the CCLM Award for Younger Writers, and Pushcart Prize Nomination. Jackson-Opoku was the inaugural recipient of the Esteemed Artist Award in Literary Arts from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and was a recipient of the Gwendolyn Brooks Award to Significant Poets of Illinois where she taught literature and creative writing at the college level for many years. She has continued teaching workshops and seminars around the globe and in the U.S., and is a fellow of numerous distinguished artist residencies and writers’ colonies including Escape To Create, MacDowell, the Ragdale and Djerassi Foundations, and Virginia Center for The Arts.
Escape To Create and The REP Theatre welcome Emerald Coast Storytellers, a local writers group based in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida that seeks to provide uniquely curated events revolving around the written and spoken word. Their mission is to help locals and visitors alike discover, foster, and reignite their creative passions – both on and off the page.
