Join us at The REP for a special one-night-only event featuring a free film screening hosted by Joshua and Jared Thompson of The Sock Joplin Trio. The event will showcase two award-winning films that highlight the diverse works of Joshua and Jared Thompson. By archiving their performances onstage and bringing them to the screen, these multifaceted artists illustrate the importance and impact of artistic creations that endure beyond the moments during a live concert.
The event will run for approximately 2 hours with one 10 minute intermission

This poignant concert/documentary by Jared Thompson and Indianapolis’ jazz band Premium Blend offers a reflective look at the issues that defined the polarizing year 2020. It amplifies and represents the voices of those who create and curate Indianapolis’s culture, providing artists a platform to share their inspirations and perspectives.

‘Black Keys: The Evolution of The Black Classical Arts’
This original production by WFYI, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Kenyetta Dance Company, and pianist and music sociologist Joshua Thompson guides audiences through a captivating origin story using masterworks from composers of African descent. It features pieces by William Grant Still, Joseph Bologne, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Harry Burleigh, and Margaret Bonds.

The Sock Joplin Trio performs two sensational concerts blending the music of jazz, classical and Neo-Soul on Friday, November 15th & Saturday, November 16th!
Based in Indianapolis, The Sock Joplin Trio is led by pianist Joshua “Sock Joplin” Thompson and includes PsyWrn Simone on vocals and Jared Thompson on saxophone. Accompanying the trio, The REP Theatre is pleased to welcome local musicians Joe Murphy on bass, Jim Ward on guitar, and DJ Rhodes on drums, promising a dynamic and diverse performance.
This past January, Joshua A. Thompson captivated Seaside audiences with his powerful performance during his sensational sold-out concert at The REP, featuring classical masterworks of some of the greatest African American composers as part of his Escape To Create Artist Residency. Thompson’s poignant performance left a lasting impression with his exceptional talent and magnetic stage presence.
This November, Joshua Thompson continues his indelible mark on the Seaside community with The Sock Joplin Trio. Thompson welcomes his twin brother, Jared Thompson, a composer, saxophonist, and bandleader of the multi-album-producing band Premium Blend. Powerhouse vocalist PsyWrn Simone will join the duo. Together, these acclaimed and national touring artists will give audiences a musical experience that explores Black music’s rich and intertwined histories—from classical composers of African descent to spirituals, jazz, Hip-hop, and Neo-Soul.
The Sock Joplin Trio performs “A Journey Into Sound” on Friday, November 15th, and Saturday, November 16th, at 7:30 pm at The REP Theatre. Tickets are $60 and $48 for REP Members. GET TICKETS.
